Subject: Damage Assessment Tagging System
The Community Development Department has implemented a tagging system to communicate the results of damage assessments on properties. These tags are designed to inform property owners of required next steps related to permitting and safety.
Initially, yellow tags were used to indicate that permits were necessary following an assessment. However, due to the increased volume of assessments, tags now appear in various colors, including yellow, green, orange, and red door hangers.
Please note the following important points:
- Some tags explicitly indicate when a property is deemed unsafe.
- The primary function of these tags is to notify property owners when a permit is required before any repairs or construction can take place.
- If a contractor advises that no permits are needed, the tag serves as a clear reminder to the property owner that a permit is required.
This system is in place to protect property owners from potential complications that may arise if work is performed without the necessary permits. We urge all industry professionals to ensure their clients are aware of and comply with permit requirements.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
